Who We Are
Lisa Lappin Levine started MMC in the summer of 2022 out of her home in Newton Centre, MA. She is an AMS certified Montessori teacher and a Massachusetts certified teacher with a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Simmons University and a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University.
From the moment Lisa enrolled her own children at Wellan Montessori School in 2008, she was in awe of how Montessori math materials engaged and captivated children’s interest and imagination. Her children thrived in this setting, which fostered an inquisitiveness and internal drive to learn. Lisa felt so strongly about the power of Montessori learning that she sought out training to become a Montessori teacher, first working at Kingsley Montessori School in Boston and then at Wellan Montessori School in Newton, where she worked as a Lower Elementary teacher for six years. Currently, she splits her time between Wellan Montessori School and Montessori Math Club.
Lisa believes that all children should have access to the best education possible, whether it be private or public, in the suburbs or the city, or in high or low income communities. Her mission is to make Montessori Math available to all. Whether a student loves math or struggles with math, working with the Montessori materials can help them “see” what they are learning in a new way, through their hands first and then moving towards abstraction. It’s a powerful approach that leaves a lasting impression on the child.
